Friedrichshain

Friedrichshain
Friedrichshain – former workers' district and now the young, hip Berlin
  • Boxhagener Platz – browsing, bargaining and
    having fun at the flea market (Sun 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
    as well as a weekly and ecological market (Sat 9 a.m. - 3.30 p.m.)

Friedrichshain is a popular district with students and young families, especially the old buildings around Boxhagener Platz and the Samariter area. With an average inhabitant age of 37, Friedrichshain is the youngest district in Berlin. It attracts many young people with its central location and popular pubs, bars and clubs, as well as mundane corner stores and second-hand shops. It is thus a district with a high recreational value. The buildings from the Imperial age in Mainzer and Rigaer Straße are well preserved and sensitively renovated, while between them some grey and some colourfully painted buildings from the 1960s peek through with their very own charm. If you walk through the factory gate on Revaler Straße 99, you will find a different world: punks snooze on old car seats, a painter stands at his easel and acrobats practice walking on the high wire. This place is a former railway garage (RAW) and is now a place of creativity that is used in many diverse and varied ways.
